Video > Japan 2002 - 2006
After I finished Graduate School in 2002 several factors sent me to Japan.
1. I felt that I needed time and space to wrap my head around what I had just learned and experienced. One of my professors suggested that living in a place where you don’t speak the language is a good place to do such things.
2. I was born on a military base in Okinawa. My parents took me back to the U.S. as an infant but constant stories about Japan as I was growing up cemented it as a rich part of my own fantasy life.
3. I wanted to practice my photography and develop my eye as well as get a jump on new technology.
4. I wanted to try my hand at teaching. While teaching ESL was a far cry from teaching Art it was still a great training ground.
On all counts Japan was a great success. I also had the great fortune of meeting my wife and beginning the adventure of raising a son while I was there.
